Les Misérables, this year’s spring musical, follows the daily lives of French people and a failed revolution during the 1800s. The musical centers around the main character, Jean Val Jean, who’s on the run from police inspector Javert. It also follows characters Fantine and her child Cossette, revolutionaries Enorjalas and Marius, peasant girl Eponine and criminal innkeepers, the Thenardiers. Currently, the students are rehearsing and designing and building sets in preparation for the play. Performances will take place on February 23 at 4:15 p.m., February 24 at 7:00 p.m. and February 25 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Jordyn Nelson ‘24, who plays a variety of background roles, enjoys being able to have diverse characters she has the opportunity to play.
“I like being able to participate in a plethora of dance moves and interactions on stage,” Nelson said.
Nelson also appreciates the costumes and is excited to wear them in the musical.
“I’m looking forward to our costumes because I believe they will be some of the most elaborate costumes I’ve ever gotten to wear,” Nelson said.
Joshua Carmichael ‘24 plays a variety of roles including a laborer, an onlooker and a customer. He eagerly awaits the musical aspect of Les Misérables.
“I’m looking forward to the song ‘One Day More’ since it’s my favorite in the musical,” Carmichael said.
Kennedy Rogers ‘23, who plays Eponine, looks forward to her scenes.
“I do not want to spoil anything, but I get to act out so many emotional scenes,” Rogers said.
She anticipates spending time with her senior friends the most because it is a bittersweet end to her high school career.
“I am most looking forward to working with all of my friends who are seniors for the last time, which is super meaningful to me because I have created such a tight bond with them,” Rogers said.
