Senior Skip Day is an annual tradition here at Woodward where seniors collectively choose a day to skip a school day. However, this tradition may no longer exist due to the administration’s recent announcement that ten hours will be given to any senior who participates in senior skip day.
Students are only allowed to be absent from school if they are sick, have an emergency or have an understandable reason for their absence. Skipping a school day just for being seniors is apparently not one of them, according to Dean Rogers.
“Misusing senior privileges to skip a day of school is a violation of Woodward Academy conduct,” Rogers said. “This is not acceptable and students should face consequences for it.”
Peter Parker ‘23 expresses his annoyance and disappointment with the administration and believes that seniors need to protest against the administration’s outrageous actions.
“This is absolutely unacceptable,” Parker said. “Seniors have been doing this tradition for so many years, so the school can’t just decide to penalize us all of a sudden. We need to protest against the school and fix this situation immediately. We should all stand in front of Woodruff with megaphones to voice our opinions in an effective manner and bring back this tradition immediately!”
The administration understands students’ disappointment, but Dean Baggs believes that seniors have many other fun things to look forward to.
“Seniors will still have Decades Day, Drip Day, Field Day with their Primary Pen Pals, as well as Spring Fling and Last Blast,” Baggs said. “I think that’s still plenty of fun.”
