Come the new year, many people start with resolutions to implement. While these resolutions sound promising on paper, they usually do not last due to unrealistic expectations, which take the place of good habits. Here are some tips to help you achieve your 2024 resolutions/goals!
1. Be realistic.
It is important to set relevant goals for yourself, but don’t set unrealistic expectations. For example, if you want to work out in the new year, don’t set an unrealistic goal, such as running a marathon without any training. The problem with setting unrealistic expectations is that, oftentimes, you can end up feeling so overwhelmed that you will procrastinate the task and set it aside for next year.
2. Write it down.
This might sound silly, but, if you write down a list, you are more likely to achieve your goals as it helps you organize your thoughts and plan your resolutions. Whether you choose to use the Notes app or organize a planner, just remind yourself to steadily take one more step toward accomplishing your goal.
3. Start small.
To build a habit, you have to start with small, daily steps. You can’t expect to start running 3 miles instantly. Your first step could be walking a mile for a week. Then you could start jogging a mile, and, eventually, you could start running a mile.
4. Prioritize breaks.
It is perfectly fine to have days off and take breaks. If you wish to put an end to your caffeine addiction, then you are not going to stop drinking coffee at first, so you have to forgive yourself, learn to take a break and prioritize your mental health.
5. Remind yourself why you’re doing it.
It is key to remind yourself of the reason you are setting your goal. Think about how your resolution will help you in the long run, and it will help you remind yourself why you are setting your goal to begin with. Know why you’re trying to achieve your goal and use that fuel for motivation.
