The second semester of high school is a busy time of the year; as summer edges closer, students start to lose motivation. But now is not the time to give up. Even though it’s tempting, remember you are almost there!!! In 3 months, school will be done, while seniors need only to wait two. The end of the school year is closer than you think.
Here are some tips to help you get over your 2nd semester slump:
- Plan.
Have a game plan. I know it’s easy to tell yourself you’re going to remember homework and assignments, but as with anything, that is easier said than done. You don’t have to be organized and write on a planner. It can be as simple as writing it down in the Notes app or a sticky note. Whatever you do, don’t forget to write down a plan of how you will finish your assignments.
- Prioritize self-care.
It is easy to get burnt out over this semester’s plethora of work, but remember that taking care of yourself is equally important. Whether it is a nap, reading a book, listening to music, or exercising, remember to find one thing that makes you happy.
- Be positive.
Negative self-talk never gets you anywhere, so don’t listen to the negative thoughts in your head. Staying positive will make your tasks feel easier because you have a great attitude and mindset on how to approach schoolwork, as opposed to telling yourself you can’t do it.
- Don’t give up.
I know that it’s tempting to stop caring about school, but you are almost done. Remind yourself that it’s only a few months from summer and that it’s only one more final push before you go on vacation, free from schoolwork.
- Try your best.
At the end of the day, you can only do your best. It’s okay if you are not productive every day and if you take breaks. Breaks are important too!! Be proud of yourself for getting this far in the school year, and tell yourself to keep going.
