I cannot believe this is my last Butterknife!!!!! As a senior who is graduating from WA in less than three weeks, I would like to give a few words of advice. Here are the top five lessons I’ve learned from my time in high school.
- Be yourself.
Always stay true to yourself. In high school, it can be challenging to stay true to yourself because of either the transition from middle school to high school, trying to make new friends and fit in, or finding who you are as a person. These can all be very difficult to navigate amongst while you try to manage the challenging academic curriculum, sports and other extracurriculars. When you stay true to yourself, you’ll find the right people, you’ll find your place and hopefully you’ll discover who you are as a person.
- Prioritize yourself first.
It is easy to get swept up in the relationships you share with your friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, families, etc. But don’t let that ruin your high school experience! Remember to prioritize yourself first, and don’t worry too much about what other people think.
- Don’t stress.
Relax. Don’t stress too much about the future. I know it is easy to worry about your future because school can be extremely intense, but remind yourself to slow down and to take a deep breath in.
- Stay present.
“Live in the moment” — it is definitely easier said than done. Try to enjoy all of the memories you will make during high school. Try to take it one day at a time, and take it slow. Life is more fun when you stay present and enjoy all of the little things.
- Trust that everything will work out.
I know that life can be overwhelming, but sometimes you have to trust in the process. Keep on going, and don’t give up. Things have a way of working themselves out.
