This past week Woodward Academy’s upperclassmen got to experience A Night in NOLA. Prom is an exciting time for many teenagers and is always something to look forward to in high school. Everyone prepares differently and has different things that they do and look forward to, so how did WA students look forward to this year?
Everyone’s Prom experience or getting-ready process may differ. It may take some people longer or some people a shorter amount of time. Gabby Harrison ’25 shares her process of preparing for Prom.
“It took about 3 hours for me to get ready, and my makeup took me an hour and a half,” Gabby said.
Just like most other Prom-goers, she looked forward to hanging out with friends all dressed up the most.
Gabby isn’t the only one who spent hours on their appearance. Similarly, Brandon Burnett ’24 started his day early. He elaborates on his timely process of getting ready for Prom.
“Okay, so basically I woke up at 4 a.m, and my mom did my hair,” Brandon said. “She was done around, like, 8. And then I went to sleep until, like, 11. I went to go get a haircut, and then… I went with my mom to go to the Macy’s to get some shoes and a belt. I went home, got rest, went to [my date’s] house and we did pictures for an hour. We went to dinner at… 7:00 o’ clock. And then we went to prom.”
He appreciates his mother for helping him prepare.
“She really did just my hair and made sure I look good, and she helped me get all my stuff for prom, like my flowers and stuff,” Brandon said.
On other hand, Brian McDonald ‘24 prepared for prom by himself. This didn’t stop him from enjoying himself and making fond memories at the Botanical Gardens, however.
“I got ready by myself, but we went to the Botanical Gardens,” Brian said. “It was really nice. We all met up with a group of, like, 12… maybe 14 of us took pictures. It was great. Parents were there.”
Brian also recalls the delicious food being extremely memorable at Barcelona Wine Bar.
“We all slid to dinner, and it was nice,” Brian said. “Barcelona Wine Bar. Tasting menu slaps. Lamp. Nah, I actually gotta put you on. That lamb and potatoes…it was just so good.”
However, he reflected on his true feelings about Prom.
“After dinner, we… went straight to prom,” Brian said. “Prom was okay. Prom itself was alright.”
Finally Prom Night is enjoyable and memorable seeing everything you’ve done and looked forward to come together. Gabby shares more on her experience.
“Seeing all the effort I put into each detail of my look all come together to create a beautiful outcome was an enjoyable experience,” Gabby said.
