After years of waiting and many musicals produced, many people have anticipated the musical “Wicked” readaptation into the lengthy three-hour film. The story dives into the lives of Elphaba and Glinda taking the audience on an unforgettable journey. The movie depicts how Elphaba and Glinda grew up together, Madame Morible’s power hungry ways, Boq and his love for Elphaba and Nessarose, Elphaba’s younger sister. Over the past week, many students went to watch the film, such as Blaire Lee ‘25.
“The film was amazing,” Blaire said. “I never watched the musical, but I enjoyed watching the film even though it was a little long.”
Many people went by a theme, with some dressing as the colors of Glinda and others dressing as Elphaba. People also enjoyed the visuals, the bright colors, the singing and the amazing CGI. Kira Taylor ‘25 at WA shares her experience.
“The film was beautiful, even though it was lengthy, it was worth the wait,” Kira said. “I feel like people who don’t even like musicals would really enjoy the movie, if you have the patience of course.”
Mrs. Laquinta Montgomery, an Upper School English teacher, also shares her thoughts.
“I really enjoyed the movie,” Mrs. Montgomery said. “I was skeptical, and it just seemed to take a minute to hook me in, but I was totally responding as I was there, cheering for one part of the movie, booing for the other. So it took a second, but I really got into it.”
