Baseball
The varsity baseball team has played four games so far this season with three wins and one loss against Newnan High School. Currently, the team sits at second in the class 5A state rankings. Their away game played on Feb. 26 against Chamblee Charter High School, ended in a win 8-1, to improve to 2-0 in region play. Tonight, at 6:00 pm, they will finish a three game series against Chamblee.
Basketball (Boys)
The boys basketball team is still in the running for state championships, with a win-loss of 25-4. Currently, the WA team is ranked first in the AAAAA Region 4. After beating Winder-Barrow High School on Feb. 26, the team advanced to the Final Four in the GHSA State Championships. The next game will be played on Feb. 28 against Langston Hughes High School. If the War Eagles win, they will play in the championship game.
Basketball (Girls)
The girls basketball team has been on a roll with a win-loss of 23-6. Unfortunately for the team, their season was cut short after losing 58-60 at the bell in their game against Bradwell Institute. Had that close match-up gone differently, they, too, would have gone on to the Final Four for the State Championship this weekend.
Golf (Boys)
The team placed 6th at the White County Warrior Scramble. Their next tournament will be on Mar. 10, at the St. Pius Golden Lion Challenge.
Lacrosse (Boys)
The boys lacrosse team has played four games so far, losing three and winning one against Forsyth Central High School. Their next game will be played Feb. 28, against North Atlanta High School at the Graham Hixon Field at home. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
Lacrosse (Girls)
The girls lacrosse team has played 2 games so far, with a 0-2 win-loss. The team is ranked second in the class 2A state rankings. The girls lacrosse game played on Feb. 26 at Union Grove High School ended in a win of 14-10. Tomorrow’s match will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Dunwoody High School.
Riflery
Riflery has won every meet this season. They have a 15-0 record and currently sit top of the area 8 rankings. The team won sectionals to round out their historic season. They will advance to the State Finals in Waycross, Georgia, on Mar. 14 and 15.
Soccer (Boys)
The boys soccer team have played five games so far, winning all five. Their biggest win has been a 6-0 win in their opener over Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School. They are currently second in the class 5A state rankings. They beat Tri-Cities on Tuesday night in their region opener to extend their unbeaten run in regionals to 30 games, stretching all the way back to 2019.
Soccer (Girls)
After a difficult start losing the first four games, the girls responded with a dominant 4-0 win over Tri-Cities on Tuesday night. Corinne Rodriguez ‘28 scored twice while Lola Manuel ‘26 and Nia Thompson 25’ scored a goal each. The girls soccer team over the last few years had slow starts to the season, but ended up winning regionals for the past two years, going undefeated.
Tennis (Boys)
The boys tennis team has won 2 out of 3 matches this season. Their next game will be an away game today, Feb. 27, at 4:15 p.m. against Carrollton High School.
Tennis (Girls)
The girls tennis team has gone undefeated so far this season, winning 4 out of 4 games. Their next game will be an away game today, Feb. 27, at 4:15 p.m. against Carrollton High School.
Track and Field
The team started their season at two meets: Marietta Distance Carnival for the distance team and Hillgrove All-Comers Classic. At Marietta, six boys won their heat in the 1600, in addition to some top performances in the middle school girls race. In the high school 1600 races, Levi Howard ‘28 finished 10th overall with 4:32, which ranks him top of the state rankings for freshmen, and 6th nationally. Taylor Lonergan ‘27 finished 11th overall with 5:30. In the middle school races, Annie Mainwaring ‘29 and Sunny Ciranni ‘29 both finished in the top ten in the 800 and 1600.
At Hillgrove, the back-to-back girls state champions continued where they left off. A Woodward girl won the 100, 200, 400 and 800 with at least 2 runners in the top ten of each event. The team also had many top performances in the field events as well. The boys had several top times and distances. A list is below.

On Feb. 22, the team competed in the Alpharetta Invitational. Both the boys and girls placed 2nd. Six War Eagles won their event, with an additional 19 making it on the podium.
Wrestling (Boys)
The boys wrestlers competed at the state tournament at Macon Coliseum. Robby De Haven ‘25 completed an undefeated season to become the individual state champion in the 165 weight class. Chandler Bell ‘27 placed 2nd in his weight class of 190. All Woodward competitors at the state meet scored points.
Wrestling (Girls)
The girls wrestling team also wrestled at state. Efa Oju ‘25 placed 3rd. Audrey Zents ‘26, Lillian Stokes ‘26, and Jiya Dalal ‘27 all represented Woodward at state as well.
