Attending Woodward Academy, you are bound to stumble across talented athletes, musicians, artists and scholars who do things beyond the norm of ordinary students. We all know a person (or a few) that accomplishes so much in their free time that you’ve got to wonder if they ever sleep. Skylar Robinson ’27, who was recently accepted into the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, is one of these people.
No doubt, Skylar is exceptional. Enrolled in all Honors and AP classes, she values her mind as well as her creativity, which she nurtures through dance and short-film creation. She also recently launched her own STEM Instagram platform, “Faith and Formulas,” which she uses to encourage young girls to pursue their interest in science while combining Christian faith, curiosity and compassion.
The Congress of Future Medical Leaders is a program for students interested in medicine. Attending students listen to groundbreaking speakers and Nobel Prize winners in the medical and science fields.

“I will be representing Georgia at a conference in June, surrounded by many notable members in STEM,” Skylar said. “I will have the opportunity to gain valuable information from different perspectives of medical doctors.”
Skylar’s selection into this program, which was based on her grades and interest in medical school, highlights her determination to enter the medical field after high school. To enter the program you must be nominated by an adult, though the person who nominated her remains a mystery.
“I’m not sure who nominated me, but I did receive a letter of nomination in the mail signed by the Nobel Peace Prize winner Mario Capecchi to attend this conference,” Skylar said.
This program wasn’t created to twiddle your thumbs and halfway listen. Those attending have an opportunity to learn valuable information towards their quest of becoming top-level doctors. They have high hopes and expectations to be able to put their newly acquired knowledge to use.
“I will learn key insights to what medical school at an Ivy League university will be like,” Skylar said. “And I look forward to gaining enough knowledge at this conference to be able to be one of the speakers at the next one.”
All in all, acceptance into this program calls for celebration. Hopefully, Skylar can use what she learns to aid her in her future endeavors.
“I hope to gain connections with different doctors and medical students who have gone through many of the things that I will go through, just so that I can be more equipped to handle it and become the best doctor I can,” Skylar said.
