Last week was the first pep rally of the school year. Students played fun games; the cheer team and band performed great acts, and who could forget Mr. Lofty’s emceeing? As one would think, a lot goes into preparing such a grand event. In charge of the preparations is social studies teacher and cheer coach Mrs. Malia Myers.

“The hardest part is… creating a routine that is going to excite the crowd, but also really creating some games that are going to really bring the student body together and also be engaging for the students while also keeping everybody excited,” Mrs. Myers said.

The cheer team was in charge of coming up with the games for the pep rally. Games, both new and old, made appearances to hype up the crowd for the big football game later that night. Cheer team member India Smith ‘26 recites the process for making these fun contests.

“The pie eating contest has been around for a while, the Knights of the Round Table, we played it during our UCA [Universal Cheerleaders Association] Camp, and it was a lot of fun, and we got to, like, experience new games and fun weeks on with our team,” India said.

The pep rally is an event hosted to bring students together and create school spirit for our games.

“I just really enjoy pep rallies and I love having the crowd involvement and getting everybody excited for our Friday nights,” Mrs. Myers said.
