By Daniela Palatchi
On Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, Apple Music, the National Football League and Roc Nation announced that the main performer for the Super Bowl Apple Music Halftime Show would be Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny also posted a reel on his Instagram account sharing the announcement. Super Bowl LX will take place on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026 at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Currently, Bad Bunny is at a high point in his career, as he just finished a two-month residency in San Juan, Puerto Rico. On the other hand, there has been some controversy with the move to pick Bad Bunny as the headliner. Bad Bunny has been vocal about his opposition to President Donald Trump, which is stirring up backlash from conservatives about him performing.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
By Riley Jones
Oct. 1 marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month, an international health campaign dedicated to raising awareness about screening and the risks of breast cancer. Women in the U.S. have a 1 in 8 risk of developing this cancer over their lifetime, and it has been estimated that around 316,000 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed this year. The campaign is recognizable by its pink ribbon, which was first used when Alexandra Penny, editor-in-chief of SELF magazine, and Evelyn Lauder, Estee Lauder’s senior corporate vice president, distributed pink ribbons following the magazine’s second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month issue. Since then, the ribbon has become a symbol for raising awareness on many different types of breast cancer.
Cleopatra: New Finds in the On-Going Investigations
By Trey Voegtlin
For years, Dr. Kathleen Martinez has dedicated her life to trying to find the tomb of famous Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra. After extensive research and dozens of excavations, Dr. Martinez was led to believe that Taposiris Magna, 30 miles away from Alexandria, is close to her burial site. Back in 2022, Dr. Martinez and her team of excavators discovered several artifacts that led back to her reign and that led all the way out to the sea from Taposiris Magna, along with a 4,300-ft. tunnel that led out into the ocean. She then teamed up with Bob Ballard, famous marine archaeologist, known for discovering the Titanic, to lead an excavation underwater to try to find the tomb of Cleopatra. Now, in 2025, Dr. Martinez is closer than ever to finding the tomb with the team finding a man-made, underwater port, near Tamposiris Magna.
The Michigan Church Shooting
By Sabenah Abudu-Abrams
On Sept. 28, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township in Michigan, a gunman drove his truck through the front of the church. The gunman then began shooting at the approximately 100 people inside and started a fire, which destroyed most of the building. Four confirmed victims have died, although at least eight more people are still recovering. The police have identified Thomas Jacob Sanford as the shooter. He was killed shortly after police arrived on the scene. Although it is still unclear how premeditated the shooting was, it is clear that it was because Sanford “hated people of the Mormon faith.”
Milan’s 2025 fashion week
By Harper Scully
This year’s Milan fashion week (Sept. 23-29) highlighted the 2026 spring/summer collections from various brands like Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana. Of particular note was how the fashion week honored the late Giorgio Armani, the selfmade Italian fashion designer and entrepreneur who died Sep. 4th after a career that revolutionized both menswear and womenswear while creating one of the most well known Italian luxury brands. The Armani runway show, which he choreographed before his death, showcased his spring/summer collection. Per usual, many celebrities were reported attending Milan fashion week like Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Sadie Sink, Emma Chamberlin and David Beckham. There were 54 runway shows, 85 presentations and 30 events that included both men’s and women’s collections across all hundred plus brands in attendance. An estimated 150,000 visitors from all around the world came, a 15% increase from the year before. The revenue from this year’s fashion week totalled around 240 million euros from attendees that spent money on shopping, catering and accommodation, not to mention transportation-related revenue.
National Guards sent to Portland, Oregon
By Kaden Bruton and Akiva Bryant
On Sept. 27, President Trump declared his plan on Truth Social to send troops to Portland, Oregon, after residents and officials pushed back against the new ICE facility there. The president claims Portland is “war-ravaged” and that the ICE facility is “under siege.” In response, the state of Oregon sued the administration over the “unlawful deployment of 200 Oregon National Guard members to perform federal law enforcement functions.” Governor Tina Kotek has also noted, while speaking to President Trump on Saturday, “that there is no insurrection, or threat to public safety that necessitates military intervention in Portland.” Although details of the plan were initially vague, in a memorandum dated Sept. 28, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has said that “200 members of the Oregon National Guard will be called into federal service effective immediately for a period of 60 days.” As of 4 p.m. on Oct. 3, the federal judge presiding over the lawsuit has not declared an immediate ruling.
