“Journeying” is the act of travelling to one place or another; while it may sound simple, one can understand its complexity when it is broken down into the parts that constitute it. We invite you, as the Traveler, to join us on the journey of exploring the inner sanctums of the arts community here at Woodward, passing through each of the distinct phases.

Before we begin our journey, let us shine a light on the path ahead. At the beginning of a journey, you, the Traveler, must find the inner strength to explore and grow as a result of this exploration; this part of the journey is symbolized through the first subsection in the book: the Forest of Seeking. After this growth, one must summon inner strength and undergo one of the hardest parts of the journey, full of potential danger and hardship, which is represented by the cave subsection, the Cave of Peril. The Traveler finds themselves in a place of loneliness and emptiness, after surviving this danger, where they cannot seem to find anything or anyone to aid them in their journey and feel as if they will not be able to continue their journey; this sense of loss and weariness is symbolized by the desert subsection, the Desert of Desolation. Finally, at the end of the journey, the Traveler reaches their final destination. They are now able to heal from the journey’s strenuous path and take the time to relax and reflect, which is symbolized through the Lagoon of Revival. Whether this final destination is an earthly or an abstract one– well, that’s up to you.
