What do you think BTS stands for? Behind the scenes? Be there soon? Back to school? Well, if you believe this, then you are mistaken. BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeodan in Korean, or Bulletproof Boy Scouts, and are famously known as the #1 Kpop group in the entire world, having rocked the industry ever since their debut in 2013. Members Jin, J-Hope, Suga, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, through hard work and determination, have grown into not just a band, but a family that has gained attention worldwide for their musical talents and easily relatable lyrics. 13 years ago since their debut on June 12, 2013, they have continued to connect the world through their music and have grown into historical figures in Korea. BTS held their last group concert on Oct. 15, 2022 before having to leave for mandatory military service. It has been four whole years since they have performed together again. Although many people thought that the group would break apart through these long years apart, BTS proved them wrong and has once again come back with their latest album, “Arirang.

The concept of the album “Arirang” can be traced back to 130 years ago in 1896, when a group of seven Korean boys came to the U.S. to Howard University after a conflict erupted in Korea. It was there where they sang the original version of “Arirang” and where the first-ever Korean voices were recorded. Although this song is centuries old, it is one of Korea’s most important pieces of history. Although it is not taught at schools, the song spread through word of mouth and became a piece of history that a lot of Koreans just naturally know. BTS has now revived this symbolic song and created a new version of “Arirang,” released March 20, 2026. In interviews, BTS mentioned that they resonated with this concept as they are also just seven Korean men who want to share their music with the world. To them, it felt like fate. Working diligently since the spring of 2025 in LA, they worked with American producers such as Diplo, Steve Aoki, Jon Bellion, Max Martin and Mike WiLL Made-It to create the final track on their new album.

Their new album includes:

  1. Body to Body”- An upbeat, loud song that really gets the listener jumping up and down. A great song that gets people moving around and vibing to the music.
  2. Hooligan”- A rap-focused song that signifies BTS’s unruly and unapologetic return to the music industry as well as reasserting their musical dominance.
  3. Aliens”- A song that signifies how BTS is “foreign” to international fans and represents their massive success beyond just a K-pop group.
  4. FYA”- Inspired by the phrase “It’s fire” which BTS members constantly heard while producing in LA, this Jersey-club style track signifies their explosive energy on stage.
  5. 2.0”- Signifies the start of BTS’s new chapter in that they have returned as BTS version 2.0.
  6. No. 29”- This song only features the ringing of a bell that is followed by silence, tying in Korean culture by displaying the Sacred Bell of Great King Seongdeok, one of Korea’s national treasures.
  7. “Swim (Title Track)”– Represents how people should continue to keep moving forward even during tough times. Features a soft, dreamy-like vibe that is soothing and nostalgic.
  8. Merry Go Round”- Explores the repetitive and circular cycle of fame with the metaphor of a carousel and the mental pressure and struggle that comes with it.
  9. NORMAL”- Identifies the pressure that BTS faces from fans and how locking away their emotions and experiencing hate has become a normal occurrence for them.
  10. Like Animals”- This song explores true passion and how people can break free from social expectations by embracing their true self.
  11. they don’t know ‘bout us”- A song that lets fans know that they don’t truly know the members of BTS past the persona they put on as they perform. It sends a message that they are simply seven ordinary men from Korea rather than legendary heroes.
  12. One More Night”- This song symbolizes BTS’s love for their fans in that they want the connection between them to last forever.
  13. Please”- Explores themes about unwavering devotion and the desire to stick together with a loved one even through difficult times.
  14. Into the Sun”- This song shows BTS’s desire to move forward with their fans into a brighter future and to keep on growing.
  15. Come Over(Hidden Track)”- An emotional song similar to their previous song “Magic Shop.” It signifies their love for their fans and how BTS will always be a safe place for fans to come and rely on.

BTS’s new album has had a massive response in which its title track “Swim,” has topped the Billboard 200 at #1 for three consecutive weeks, 208,000 copies of the vinyl sold in the first week alone and 4.2 million first-day copies on the Circle Chart, earned an AMA nomination, a contender for Grammy Album of the Year and has achieved multiple Real-Time All-Kills in Korea.

Despite the album’s major success, there have been mixed reactions to the album in that fans are disappointed in the songs after having waited for four years for BTS’s return. Compared to their other songs, fans feel that this album lacks the authenticity that earned BTS their success.

Jackson Powell ’29 expresses his views on the album as a big K-pop fan himself.

“I know [BTS] said that they were trying to, like, go back to their roots as a group,” Jackson said. “So I think [their album] derives from their original, like, hip hop concept and sound, but they kind of didn’t do it well.”

Although this is the case, Jackson admits that the album has its moments despite his disappointment.

“Swim was, like, the one that was the least bad, in my opinion,” Jackson said. “I feel, like, it was different from their usual sound, but it was still… really good. It was calmer than I expected.”

Now, BTS has their sights set on a year-long world tour, which started on April 9, 2026. It will span across 34 cities and 23 countries over 85 different dates in stadium performances in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
