Thin Mints Debate:
Samoas Debate:

It’s Girl Scout cookie season and with that that comes endless debates where I have to (needlessly) prove why Samoas are better than Thin Mints.
***Disclaimer for those who might claim that I’m biased: I don’t hate Thin Mints; I just think Samoas are better by far.*****
The combination of chocolate, caramel and coconut in Samoas blends perfectly together to create an amazing cookie. Samoas are sweer, soft, chewy and slightly salty.
Some people try to use the excuse that the coconut in Samoas is too overpowering as a reason to demote it from the top spot, but the coconut is actually perfectly balanced by the chocolate and caramel. Also, the quality of Samoas is sooo much better.
Unlike some Thin Mint “haters/critics,” I’m not against the chocolate and mint combination when done right. Sometimes, this combo does risk tasting like chocolate and toothpaste (York patties I’m looking at you), BUT I think it can taste great when done well. However, Thin Mints don’t do it well. In my opinion, the chocolate in Thin Mints tastes cheap while the mint flavor is barely noticeable.
Another criticism of Samoas I’ve heard floating through the halls is that Thin Mints are better because you get 32 in a box while Samoas only come with 15. But this argument has no correlation with taste. Some things can taste great while still being packaged in smaller servings… quality over quantity.
Which is to say, the quality of Samoas is better overall. It’s a high quality cookie. The flavors are perfectly balanced. If you want a chocolate-mint cookie that’s actually good/worthwhile, I suggest that you get mint oreos or chocolate-covered mint oreos.
