Y Klingon History and Language (HP)

Klingon History and Language emphasizes the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in the three communicative modes (Interpretive, Presentation, Interpersonal). Grammar, vocabulary, and culture are introduced thematically with meaningful, authentic audiovisual materials, which will also teach students about Klingon culture and the history of the language. The Honors Prep course is designed to give an in-depth look into Klingon politics and major historical events.
This course includes a three-day trip to a Klingon space station roughly 50 light-years away, where students will be able to practice their conversation skills, try traditional Klingon food, and learn about the inner workings of a Klingon space station. A summer program is also available to students on the Honors Prep track, where they will travel to Qo’nos, the Klingons’ native planet, to study either ecology or starship mechanics.

Level 1 Elvish emphasizes the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in the three communicative modes (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal). Grammar, vocabulary, and culture are presented as part of culturally rich thematic units. Students will also learn the history of Elvish, with a focus on the entomology and branches of the language, and how to identify different dialects from all different parts of Middle Earth. This is an Honors Prep course due to the complexity of Elvish entomology and dialects.
This course includes a day-trip to Atlanta’s own MidEarth Village, where students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Elvish culture, try fruits and vegetables native to Middle Earth, observe traditional Elvish architecture, and practice speaking the language.
Y Valyrian Language and Entomology (HP)

Valyrian Language and Entomology emphasizes the development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in the three communicative modes (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal). Grammar and vocabulary are presented as part of culturally rich thematic units. While students will learn to speak High Valyrian, they will also study different dialects of Vulgar Valyrian, or High Valyrian mixed with other tongues spoken across the Known Land.
This course includes a day-trip to Stone Mountain Dragon Sanctuary, where students will talk to dragon conservationists from Westeros, learn about dragon conservation as a career path, and learn sayings from several Valyrian dialects.

Level 1 Shyriiwook emphasizes the development of speaking and listening skills in the three communicative modes (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal). Grammar, vocabulary, and culture are introduced thematically with meaningful, authentic audiovisual materials. The Honors Prep course is designed to prepare the student for future HP work, including more exposure to authentic materials.
This course includes a day-trip to Kashyyyk Botanical Garden in Atlanta. Students will learn about interplanetary botanical transplants, practice their Shyriiwook by speaking to experts in the field, and learn about careers in intergalactic ecology.
Y Shyriiwook 2 (HP)

In level 2, Shyriiwook students continue to develop the speaking and listening skills in the three communication modes (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal). Grammar and vocabulary are presented as part of culturally-rich thematic units. Proficiency goal is Novice High. Prerequisite: 1HP or department approval.
This course includes a week-long trip to Kashyyyk, where students will be able to practice their conversational skills, learn about and participate in Wookiee culture and tradition, and explore Kashyyyk’s capital city, Kachirho. A summer program is also available for students interested in studying intergalactic anthropology.
S Standard Galactic Alphabet (EP, HP)

This course emphasizes the development of reading and writing skills in the Standard Galactic Alphabet in the three communicative modes (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal). Grammar and vocabulary are introduced thematically with meaningful, authentic audiovisual material. The Honors Prep course is designed to prepare the student for future HP work in the history of the End Realm.
Students will also take a day-trip to Atlanta’s End Realm Museum and Library, where they will practice reading End Realm documents, learn how to bind and enchant books, and discuss a career in Multi-realm Library Studies.
S End Realm History (EP, HP)

This course presents a broad overview of End Realm history from the establishment of End Realm Cities to their current-day politics. Topics include the establishment of the first Ship, human discovery of the End Portal, enderman culture and tradition, the Elytra Revolution, major social movements of the past century, and economic theory surrounding Ender Pearls. Prerequisite: Standard Galactic Alphabet EP or HP.
This course includes a day-trip through Woodward Academy’s own End Portal, where students will visit several End Ship settlements, a museum dedicated to the legend of the End Dragon, and a bustling market in the nearest End City.
Y Parseltongue 1 (EP, HP)

Level 1 Parseltongue emphasizes the development of speaking and listening skills in the three communicative modes (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal). Grammar, vocabulary, and culture are introduced with meaningful, authentic audiovisual materials. The Honors Prep course is designed to prepare the student for future HP work, including more exposure to authentic materials.
This course includes a month-long student exchange with Woodward’s newest partner school, Hogwarts. Students will enroll in classes, including Astronomy, Charms, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Transfiguration.
