Kash Patel Allegations and Lawsuit

By Joy Ferguson

The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States, Kash Patel, is suing The Atlantic and reporter Sarah Fitzpatrick for $250 million. He’s suing them over the alleged story that Patel “alarmed colleagues with episodes of excessive drinking and unexplained absences.” The defamation suit was filed Monday in the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia. Patel’s attorney says Fitzpatrick’s story is a malicious, sweeping and defamatory hit piece. His attorney also confirmed that Patel was locked out of the bureau’s computer system and was panicking. They described this issue as a routine technical problem that was quickly fixed. The lawsuit adds that “Director Patel does not drink to excess” and that “this has not, and has ever been, a source of concern across the government.” Anna Bross, who is The Atlantic’s senior vice president of communications, said Monday in a statement, “We stand by our reporting on Kash Patel, and we will vigorously defend The Atlantic and our journalists against this meritless lawsuit.” In a statement on Monday, Patel also called Fitzpatrick’s article a lie. White House staff, many officials and people with first-hand experience with Patel have said he has severe problems with his professionalism, conduct and personal decorum. Several other officials say Patel has been frequently drinking to the point that he is obviously intoxicated. Patel is concerned for his job, believing he could be the next official that is fired in President Trump’s Administration.
